Monthly Wrap Up

September Wrap Up

Okay, where did September go? Seriously, how are we into October and spooky season already?? It’s strange to think that we’re entering the last part of the year already and I don’t know about anyone else, but it feels like it should still be summer!

This is probably going to be a shorter wrap up post than normal, as September hasn’t exactly been a great month, but more on that later.

Books read:

  • The Queer Principles of Kit Webb – Cat Sebastian
  • The Lady or the Lion – Aamna Qureshi
  • Ocean’s Echo – Everina Maxwell

September has to be my worst month for reading, compared to the rest of the year. Once upon a time, 3 books in a month was okay and it wasn’t a big deal if I’d only read that much (bearing in mind my average used to be around 5 books or so a month). Given that I’ve been reading into the double figures most months this year, September feels like a bit of an anomaly.

Having said all of the above, I honestly don’t care that I only read 3 books this month. The fact that I’ve been able to read at all is something of a blessing – the reading slump hit with a bit more force this month and things have been so busy that I’m grateful that I was able to escape to other worlds for a bit.

The other bit of good news is that I really enjoyed everything I read, so that’s a nice bonus! However, I did request a number of arcs (and I was approved for them!) in September, so I do need to spend some time whittling that list down and getting my reviews up on to Netgalley.

Goodreads / Storygraph reading challenges:

My Goodreads challenge is now up to 72 books read out of my planned 50, or 144%. I’m finally going to accept that this is just going to keep going up and I’m not even going to try and rein it in. It is what it is, and I’m just going to go with the flow.

Other things:

In between being in a slump and a strange headspace in September, I made some progress on Space Dragon (who is starting to look a bit more dragon shaped now) and another Arcane inspired cross stitch.

I’ve also been working with chain maille again – basically making a bunch of things out of multicoloured jump rings. I hadn’t worked with for so long, so there were plenty of rest days while my hands and wrists recovered, but I’ve loved getting back into it. I forgot how addictive it can be to create stuff and as a result, I ended up making 4 little sprite stars (the first one in plain silver was my test piece!)

So while my reading has taken a bit of a nose dive, I’ve loved getting back into the craft stuff – I just need to find a slightly better balance between the two (hello audiobooks!).

I am hoping my reading will be back on track for October though – it’s the Fantasy Fellowship readathon and I’m very excited to dive into my TBR. There’s a mix of stuff on there and a few books I’m genuinely very excited to read, so fingers crossed I will be out of my slump by the time of my next wrap up!

I’m also going to be stepping back from the blog during October (not that I really do much with it anyway!) I’m going to be scheduling some posts throughout the month and I have a blog tour I’m part of, but otherwise, I won’t be doing much in the way of book tags or anything like that.

With that, I hope your October is full of spooky shenanigans (if you’re into that kind of thing!) If not, I hope it goes well and I’ll see you at the end of the month!
